THE VERSE
Sing aloud, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem! The LORD has taken away the judgments against you; he has cleared away your enemies. The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst; you shall never again fear evil.~Zephaniah 3:14-15
THE THOUGHT
The dictionary defines "exulting" as "to show or feel triumphant joy." The reason that we are told to exult in Zephaniah 3 is because "the LORD has taken away the judgments against you." The judgments against us have indeed been taken away; they have been nailed to the cross and cancelled there. Colossians 2 says that God forgave "all our trespasses by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This He set aside, nailing it to the cross." Triumphant joy is a fruit of the Spirit that grows in the blood-soaked soil at the foot of the cross; the longer we stay there, the more we will find this divine attribute welling up in our hearts.Every day we must return to Calvary to once again "survey the wondrous cross where the Prince of glory died." Come to the cross with your cares, concerns, anxiety, and sin, for Jesus died to trade burdens with you: your heavy load of guilt and frustration for His light yoke of triumphant and joyful servanthood. Don't let anything get in between you and the cross. Neither circumstances nor passing emotions, neither schedules nor workloads, neither life nor death can separate you from the love of God, so don't use them as an excuse to stay away. Come to the cross, and rejoice triumphantly in the salvation and victory that is yours in Christ.
THE PRAYER
Dear Lord, Thank you for taking away the righteous judgments against me by giving them to Your sinless Son and punishing Him for my transgressions in my place. Thank you for drawing near to me and opening the way for me to enjoy You forever. Turn my eyes upwards away from my temporary problems and to the eternal victory that is mine because of what You have done for me.EXTENDED READING
