October 1- Micah 4:5

THE VERSE

For all the peoples walk each in the name of its god, but we will walk in the name of the LORD our God forever and ever.
~Micah 4:5

THE THOUGHT

Throughout the Bible, God's name is the manifestation of His character and glory. Therefore Deuteronomy 32:3 says "For I will proclaim the name of the Lord; ascribe greatness to our God!" God is passionately committed to glorifying Himself; that is why He says in Ezekiel 20:9 and elsewhere, "I acted for the sake of My name, that it should not be profaned."

So what does it mean to "walk in the name of the LORD our God?" It means to live in a way that displays His character and glory. To reflect His character means to be like Him-- to "be holy, for I am holy," to "forgive one another, as God in Christ forgave you." To glorify Him means to treasure Him above everything else-- to "count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord," to "consider the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt," and to live in such a way that puts Christ on display as the supremely valuable, supremely glorious Savior He really is.

THE PRAYER

Lord, Help me to walk in Your name, and to live my life reflecting Your character and glory to the world. By the power of Your Spirit, help me to be holy and merciful and loving like You, and to desire You more than I want money and fame or security or comfort or friends or possessions. Be my all-satisfying treasure, so that Your glory will be put on display in my life.
