August 9- Philippians 4:13

THE VERSE

I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
~Philippians 4:13

THE THOUGHT

What a promise this is! With one sentence, God sweeps across the entire expanse of our lives and fells all cause for doubt and worry. I can do ALL things through Him who strengthens me. There is not a single obstacle I will face, not a single challenge to overcome, not a single tragedy to befall me, not a single struggle to endure, for which He will not be sufficient.

I can know this because the promise says, “I can do all things through Him.” This is no “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” mentality. This isn’t about trying harder. This is about the strength of the Savior, who upholds the universe by the word of His power, who speaks to decaying corpses and says, “Lazarus, come out,” who holds all authority in heaven and on earth, and who says to each one who puts their trust in Him, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

This is a mighty promise, because it is a mighty Savior who speaks it. Rest in this today. His grace is sufficient for you; don’t trivialize the depth and strength of His mercy by doubting His power to work in and through and around you. He has promised to strengthen you when you need it; now come to Him in expectant faith, asking to do all things through Him who strengthens you.

THE PRAYER

Lord, Your promise is my only plea, Your strength my only hope. Apart from You, I am but dust and ashes. But You know my frame, and You have promised to give me everything I need for life and godliness. Help me to know Your incomparably great power which is at work for those who believe. Help me to trust You.
