THE VERSE
Oh sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.~Psalm 98:1
THE THOUGHT
Have you ever considered how much of the Bible is in poetry, and what this tells us about God? Thirty percent of the Old Testament was written in poetic form. Even most of the prophetic books have a structured meter, verse, and form. Interesting, isn't it? God chose to communicate many of His warnings and promises to His people primarily through the medium of poetry. This illuminates something extraordinary about the heart of God: He is an artist. This is seen clearly in the beauty and design of creation, from the fragile wildflower to the extraordinary superstructures of the cosmos. But God's artistry is not limited to the world; in His Word, God inspired and breathed out some of the most beautiful verse that the world has ever seen. God is an artist and a poet, the original Voice of whom every human artistic striving has been but a faint echo.
God's poetic heart has been woven into our very beings. Poetry and music, more so than any other genre, has the strange ability to reach past our minds and into our hearts and emotions. This week, to celebrate the creative heart of God and man, the Daily Verses will be in poetic form. The mission of the DVO is to "ignite a passion for worship in all of life," and so this week we will follow the example of God Himself in His Word by imitating the beauty of His heart with the beauty of verse.
THE PRAYER
Father, You are the original Artist, the uncreated Voice, eternal Light, and everlasting Lover. Give us minds and hearts like Yours-- minds that strive to reach the heights of Your wisdom and hearts bursting with love and passion for You and the world You have made. Make our lives a symphony, our lips full of praise, and our minds overflowing with the poetry of Your great love.EXTENDED READING

THE QUOTE
"The supremacy of God's goodness and holiness and power and knowledge and justice and wisdom are honey for the heart's tongue and gold for the treasury of our soul. God means for us to know them with our minds and relish them with our hearts." ~John Piper
