And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had seized them, and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.
~Mark 16:8
THE THOUGHT
The news of the resurrection was first proclaimed to a group of scared and grieving women, who at first did not even understand the significance of what had taken place. They heard the angels proclaiming the glorious news of the resurrection, yet they still fled fearful. Why?
An important point for all of us on Easter can be drawn here. One can encounter the empty tomb, the folded linens, the angels, and the message, but until one encounters the risen Christ, it all falls on blind eyes and unbelieving hearts. It was not until Mary met Jesus in the garden afterwards that her fear was transformed into faith.
This Easter, ask yourself this question: have I only come to the empty tomb, or have I come to the risen Lord?
THE PRAYER
Jesus, You are the risen and exalted One, the One who was dead and is now alive forevermore. Help me to come to You in true faith. Move me past the symbols of the resurrection to the Person of the resurrection, past the empty tomb and into the embrace of You, my living Savior.
