THE VERSE
The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul;the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever;
the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.
Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
~Psalm 19:7-11
THE THOUGHT
How wonderful is the Word of God! It revives the soul, makes the simple wise, rejoices the heart, enlightens the eyes, endures forever, and is altogether righteous. Christian, do you feel the force of these words? Do you love the Bible like the Psalmist?"More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold." This is an objective statement; regardless of what we feel about the Bible, its value far exceeds any other thing you own. The question is this: do YOU desire it more than gold? Do you go to it to drink deeply of its reviving springs? Our Shepherd leads us beside still waters and renews our souls by His Word! Do you seek out its wisdom with all your heart? God leads His children in paths of righteousness by the wisdom of His Word! Does your heart rejoice in the vision of Christ revealed in the Word? The command to "Rejoice in the Lord always" is to be fulfilled by saturating your heart with the portrait of your Lord in the Word! Have your eyes been opened to see and savor Jesus Christ? God shines in our heart to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ through His Word!
Oh, that we as a Church would rise up with powerful devotion to the Word of God! Oh, that we would rejoice in its truth and treasure its power to show us Jesus Christ!
THE PRAYER
Holy Spirit, I love Your Word, but I confess that I do not love it as I ought. My affections are weak, my love is small, my devotion is wavering. Please incline my heart to Your testimonies, open my eyes to see wonderful things in your Word, unite my heart to fear Your name, and satisfy me with Your steadfast love revealed there.EXTENDED READING
