THE VERSE
Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.~Psalm 73:25
THE THOUGHT
"This is the blessed life," wrote St. Augustine, "To rejoice towards Thee, about Thee, for Thy sake." Oh, that we would have this passion, that we would have eyes to see this blessed life that God holds out to us!Whom have we in heaven but Him? Nothing, for He is heaven to us, and there is nothing our hearts truly long for besides Him. All the things we fill our lives with, looking for fulfillment, point us to the only One who will truly satisfy. There is nothing on earth that could ever compare with the glory and joy of knowing the King of Kings, who has stooped to reveal Himself to our hearts by His Holy Spirit.
And think of what it means, that we have Him in heaven! We have Jesus as our Mediator, interceding for His own beloved before the throne of the Father. "Consequently," Hebrews 7 says, "He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them." Because we have Jesus in heaven, we have confidence that we will be saved "to the uttermost," that our prayers are heard, that our everlasting good is assured, that our eternal life is secure, and that God is eternally, unchangeably for us in Christ. Because we have Jesus in heaven, we have heaven, and God will be the strength of our heart and our portion forever.
THE PRAYER
Lord, How great is Your love to me! You guide me with Your counsel, and You will soon receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is nothing on earth I desire compared to You, for even though my flesh and heart my fail, You are the strength of my heart and my portion forever. All those who are far off and unfaithful will perish, but You have brought me near, and it is good to be near You.EXTENDED READING

THE QUOTE
"The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us; just as the roof of a sunhouse does not attract the sun because it is bright, but becomes bright because the sun shines on it." ~C.S. LewisTHROUGH THE BIBLE IN A YEAR
