October 15- Isaiah 57:15

THE VERSE

For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: "I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the spirit of the faint."
~Isaiah 57:15

THE THOUGHT

How great is our God! We worship the high and holy One, who fills all of forever with His always-now presence. He "inhabits eternity"-- think of it! We only exist moment by moment; the only time we have guaranteed to us is the infinitely brief flash of time that we experience as "the present." Our entire lives are lived out as one infinitely brief moment of existence after another. But God is not like us. God doesn't just see the future; He is already there, just as He exists yesterday and today and forever. Every moment in time and eternity He is present, inhabiting eternity like we inhabit a house. The universe is too small for Him; all of history from the moment time began until it ends cannot contain His presence. An infinite God inhabits infinity.

But this high and holy One is not remote, and that is what is truly amazing about Him. Think for a moment about what a wonder it is that God cherishes, loves, even notices you! A thousand million billion years is all "the present" to Him. He measures the universe with the span of His hand. Within that universe is a tiny speck called the Mily Way. Inside that tiny speck is an microscopically small dust particle called the earth. And on that microscopically small dust particle are even smaller people, living out their momentary lives in a vast universe.

Wonder, then, that the high and holy One sees you. Fall to your knees realizing that He loves you! And prostrate yourself with awe seeing Him descend to our level, take up a cross and die. This high and holy One is not distant. He dwells with you and in you, cherishes you with all the infinite love of His eternal heart, and has promised all the resources of His omnipotence to bring you into His glory forever. What a God we serve!

THE PRAYER

Holy God, Help me to right-size my view of You today. I confess and mourn that my god is too small; I have tried to remake You in my own image, and all my true knowledge of You has not even scratched the surface of Your supremacy and majesty. Open my eyes, Holy Spirit, to take in this vista of glory. It will take me all of eternity to know You; help me to start now.
