THE VERSE
Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."~Matthew 28:18-20
THE THOUGHT
Today, as we finish our Missions Week, we come to the last phrase in the Great Commission: "I am with you always, to the end of the age." So far in the last week, we've seen the foundation of missions, the command of missions, the God of missions, and the goal of missions. Today we will close by looking at the comfort of missions. If God is calling you to serve Him overseas in the hard places of the world, you can be emphatically sure that He will accompany you there. Those who have suffered for the cause of Christ often speak of experiencing a closeness to God that they never thought possible, and many speak of the abundant joy that was present in the midst of pain and persecution. This is because every promise of God is true and trustworthy, and this one is no exception.
Jesus Christ Himself will be with you always, whether you are serving Him in your school, in your church, in your work place, or in a closed country on the other side of the world. He will never leave, and He will provide you with everything you need to do His will, and He will be in you, working in you what is pleasing to Him. This is the comfort of missions.
THE PRAYER
Dear God, Thank you for Your promise to never leave or forsake me. Hold tight to me and lead me where You want me to go. Give me faith to trust Your promises and step out in obedience to Your commands.EXTENDED READING
Hebrews 13:5-21THE QUOTE
"A tested saint, like a well-cut diamond, glitters in the King's crown. Nothing reflects so much the honor on a workman as a protracted and severe trial of his work and his triumphant endurance of the ordeal without giving in or giving up. We are God's workmanship, and He will be glorified by our afflictions. It is for the honor of Jesus that we endure the trial of our faith with sacred joy." ~Charles SpurgeonTHROUGH THE BIBLE IN A YEAR
