THE VERSE
But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like His glorious body, by the power that enables Him even to subject all things to Himself.~Philippians 3:20-21
THE THOUGHT
The sovereignty and power of God is the basis of our hope as Christians. Look closely at today’s verse and see what guarantees our heavenly glorification. Christ “will transform our lowly body to be like His glorious body, by the power that enables Him even to subject all things to Himself.” Behind the promise of reaching heaven and being finally freed from sin, is the power that sustains the universe. This is not a powerless promise! This is amazing. In the face of all our sin, despite the slow, hard slog of sanctification, in spite of all the powers of hell determined to derail our walk with God, God Himself has committed all the resources of His omnipotence to bring us to glory. The power that will cause every knee to bow and every tongue to confess is working tirelessly to conform us to the image of Christ. What can separate us from the love of Christ? Neither death nor life nor angels nor rulers nor things present nor things to come nor any power can hold a candle to Jesus Christ’s sovereign rule over the universe and over the hearts of His people. We are more than conquerors because Jesus Christ has conquered sin forever, and we are His.
Rejoice, weary believer! Don’t grow tired, don’t give up, and keep fighting the good fight of faith. The Almighty is on your side, fighting for you, and He will win the day.
THE PRAYER
Jesus, You sustain the universe by the word of Your power, and the word of Your promise ensures that You will uphold me too. There is so much comfort in Your love. Thank you for holding on to me, for promising to complete what You have begun, and for preparing a place in glory for me.EXTENDED READING
